|My lettuce was doing great until this morning - something has eaten the leaves off my seedlings! I want to protect the few untouched seedlings, but I don't know what I'm facing here. Please provide your thoughts on what type of pest this is and the best way to remove it.
|Lots of critters love tender lettuce seedlings - various rodents, slugs, birds, even lizards! Usually covering seedlings with a light, protective fabric confuses most pests enough to make them seek food elsewhere. You can purchase "Summerweight" row cover and wire support hoops from Gardener's Supply Co. (www.gardeners.com; ph# 800/863-1700). Anchor the edges with 2x4's to further deter those who try to slip underneath. Hope this helps!|
