My lettuce was doing great until this morning - something has eaten the leaves off my seedlings! I want to protect the few untouched seedlings, but I don't know what I'm facing here. Please provide your thoughts on what type of pest this is and the best way to remove it.

Thank you,

Lots of critters love tender lettuce seedlings - various rodents, slugs, birds, even lizards! Usually covering seedlings with a light, protective fabric confuses most pests enough to make them seek food elsewhere. You can purchase "Summerweight" row cover and wire support hoops from Gardener's Supply Co. (; ph# 800/863-1700). Anchor the edges with 2x4's to further deter those who try to slip underneath. Hope this helps!
