I planted azalea bushes across the front of my house and they did well for a couple of months and then the leaves developed a whitish speckled look on them. the leaves eventually turned brown and died. Some of the plants are coming back this spring but most of them are dead. What can I do to prevent this?

You might want to consult with your county extension as to the specific cause of the problem, since both lacebugs and mildew could cause the symptoms you described. They should also be able to tell you how to treat the problem depending on which it is. Ask them soon, because lace bugs would be treated beginning very early in the season. In the meantime, clean up and remove any fallen azalea foliage. I'm sorry about your plants.
