|How do I propagate scaled lilies such as Easter lilies?|
|It's not difficult, but it takes patience. Each scale will produce bulblets, which should bloom three-four years after you begin the process. Snap whole, clean, healthy scales cleanly from the basal plate. To prevent rotting, dust them with a sulfur fungicide. Use a well-drained propogation mixture of sand and peat, keep barely moist (this prevents rot), and keep the temperature around 70F for best results. Plant with just 1/3 of each scale exposed.
When roots begin to form, you can increase watering, and soon bulblets will appear - as many as four per scale. Pot them up in loamy potting mix. You can plant them into garden beds the following spring.
