Can ornamental cherry trees be pruned now? I have several that have a lot of center growing branches, many of which cross over each other and rub. The branches are about 3 inches in diameter. Thanks, Rachel |
You can prune ornamental cherry trees now (early spring) but you'll lose some of the spectacular flower display. If that's not important to you, go ahead and prune now. Otherwise, wait until the blooming is finished to prune. You're right in wanting to remove crossing, rubbing branches. They can eventually injure one another and provide entry areas for insects and diseases. |
