| I purchased some tuberose bulbs from Burpee but they didn't have planting instructions. How deep should they be planted, if I plant them now, will they bloom this year, or should I wait till fall? |
| Tuberoses are used as a summer bedding or container plant. They can be started early indoors (about six weeks before the last frost date) so they bloom sooner. Set them in a shallow pan of damp soilless mix, put the indented or dimpled side up. Barely cover with about a half inch of soil and keep slightly moist. Place in a warm bright location. They will sprout and can be moved to individual pots when the shoots are a few inches tall. Plant outside in a shady area when all danger of frost has passed. You may also wait until after frost and plant them in the soil outside where you want them to grow. They will bloom this summer. These plants do not tolerate cold so you will need to dig them up, dry them out, and store them dry inside over the winter at a cool temperature if you want to keep them from year to year. Otherwise, leave them outside and start again with new ones next year. |
