|I bought an oversized amarylis bulb from a reputable garden store. I planted it in a pot two weeks ago and have left it on the radiator for warmth and watered with only warm water. The bulb looks exactly the same as when I purchased it...absolutely no new growth. Is it time to return the bulb?

|I've seen amaryllis that wouldn't budge for weeks and finally burst forth with a strong flower stalk. But let's troubleshoot a bit: was the bulb firm when you planted it? It shouldn't be at all soft to the touch. Also, they should be planted with the upper half of the bulb exposed. Make sure the radiator doesn't heat the soil beyond 70F, and water just enough to keep the soil from drying out. If the soil is drying out due to the heat from the radiator, the bulb may not receive enough moisture to break dormancy.
