|I have a Monrovia Abyssinian Banana plant that is 6 years old and 30 feet high. It is now producing what looks like a huge bunch of bananas comming out and hanging from the center on the plant. I can't see any sign of bananas but the thing keeps getting longer and bigger. Will this turn into a bunch of bananas? Is this just a flower? Is this the end of it's life cycle? Thanks for the help.
|When banana trees are mature they send out a shoot with a roundish projection on the end. If the flowers on the top of the stem are pollinated, bananas will develop towards the top of this reproductive stem. Wait and watch - if fruit begins to grow you'll recognize it as a cluster of bananas. Fruiting will not hamper the growth or development of your plant.
