I have a trumpet flower vine that has not produced any flowers yet. I have had the vine for about 2 years, and in that time I have only seen one flower. The leaves on the vine are growing agressively and they are healthy, but I just can't seem to get the plant to flower. What can I do? |
Trumpet vines do best when planted against a south or south-west facing wall because they thrive on sun and heat. Since they flower on the current year's growth, it helps to prune them in the early spring to encourage lots of new shoots. Cut back all year-old shoots to within 2 or 3 inches of their bases and remove any thin and straggly shoots. A spring application of a 5-10-10 or a 10-10-10 fertilizer will also encourage flowering. I hope these suggestions are helpful and that your plant rewards you this year! |
