How deep do I need to sow hollyhock seed, and how much water do should I give them? |
Hollyhocks are easy to germinate and once established will self-sow readily. They can be sown directly in a rich organic soil. Sprinkle the seeds right on the surface of the soil, and crumble a bit of soil over the top--they should be barely covered. Keep the soil consistently moist until the seeds germinate, usually within 5-7 days. Use the mist setting on a hose-end sprayer or water very gently with a watering can. Once they start growing, hollyhocks need consistent watering, especially in arid conditions: their large leaves lose water quickly. |
