Winter squash seed should be planted outdoors where it is to grow once the soil has reached a temperature of about 70 degrees, well after the last frost date. In your area, this is probably around mid-May, but your county extension office can tell you for sure. The length of time required for winter squash to mature depends on the variety, but it's usually over 100 days. Since your first fall frost won't show up until mid-October, you have plenty of time to grow a healthy harvest.
