|I have growth around the bottom of my lilac bushes that looks like new lilac shrubs starting, the growth is not necessarily connected to the original shrub as some is popping up about 6 - 12 inches away from the shrub. What I would like to know is can I dig this new growth up and transplant it somewhere else and have another lilac bush?
Or is there a better way to propagate lilacs?
|The suckers are growing from underground roots radiating from the parent plant. You can dig these suckers up (along with the attached roots) and replant them elsewhere. Digging up suckers is the easiest way to propagate a lilac. You can start new plants from tip cuttings or by layering a pliable shoot, but digging up suckers is the fastest way!
