|will cedar chips in front and side beds
be harmful to my foundation?
or will it help absorb moisture
|Cedar chips are a wood product and could possibly attract pests just as any wood product might. It is always a good idea not to bring any mulching material right up against the structure and of course, to keep an eye out for anything unusual that might occur. Cedar chips would be used to prevent erosion, help keep down weeds, help moderate the soil temperature, and help maintain soil moisture. Over time, they will rot down and help feed the soil and improve its structure. Although adding organic matter to the soil can help it to hold both air and moisture in the long run, the cedar chips applies as mulch would not directly soak up excess moisture. In most cases, excess moisture is caused by a physical problem such as overflowing gutters or a poor drainage pattern design and can only be solved by correcting the source cause.|
