|How do I get my "bird of paradise" to flower? It is 4years old, 3feet tall, lots of healthy leaves.|
|Bird-of-paradise (Strelitzia reginae) is a native of South Africa and one of the most unusual and attractive members of the banana family.
They bloom best when crowded, and the plants can be reluctant to bloom if given too much fertilizer. Use a slow release, complete fertilizer such as a 6-6-6, once each spring.
Bird-of-paradise thrives in most soils, but does best in rich loamy soils with good drainage. For good flower production, place plants in sunny or partially shaded locations. In full sun, plants are smaller and flowers are on shorter stems.
