I am looking for a bush clematis. It does not have tendrils and so does not climb.
It has five leaved purple flowers, flowered from spring to fall and grew about 5 feet in two years. Any ideas on what it was?

It was probably Clematis heracleifolia davidiana, a woody-based perennial that grows to 4' high and 3' wide. It has deep green leaves divided into three broad, oval 3-6 inch leaflets and produces dense clusters of 1" long fragrant flowers in summer.
