I just purchased your Ruby Seedless Grape to plant at the corner of my new patio. Before I went to the nursery (Walter Andersen's), I looked in my Western Garden book for advice. The vine I had hoped for is Fredonia, an American variety. Andersen's only had the Ruby Seedless, which is (according to my book) a European variety. I am hoping that my vine will not be prone to mildew - if so, what can I do to prevent it? Hopefully you can suggest a pesticide free method, since I am an organic gardener. |
Ruby Seedless is prone to powdery mildew. To help avoid the problem, provide as much direct sunshine as possible and as much air circulation as your can around your grapevines. If mildew attacks, control by spraying with water to wash spores off, or pick off infected leaves and destroy them. You can also control powdery mildew with sulfur sprays or neem oil. |
