What can we use to eliminate actively growing weeds in our garden beds which have shrubs and flowers? |
You can try several methods or a combination. One is to pull them out by the roots. You can also hoe and break them off repeatedly while they are small. This will eventually exhaust their root reserves and cause them to die. You can smother them under a heavy layer of newspaper topped off with mulch. You can carefully wipe them with an herbicide containing glyphosate. Be very careful to read and follow all of the label instructions for best results. In any case, do not let these weeds set seed or you will have an even bigger problem next year. Also, using a layer of organic mulch such as shredded bark will help reduce the number of new weeds germinating. |
