|How do I divide and transplant daylillies?|
|Daylilies (hemerocallis) can be dig with a generous root ball and replanted immediately at the same depth as they grew before. Water well to settle the soil and then as needed to keep the soil moist but not soggy until they are reestablished. |
To divide the plants, you may dig out a section of the original, and replant as above. You may also dig up the entire clump and divide it as desired using a spade, a knife, or in some cases by pulling it into sections. Each crown (or section of root attached to foliage) will eventually grow and bloom. A nice division might consist of three to five crowns or more. Divisions should be replanted at the same depth as they grew before and watered as above.
