Does deadheading spent flowers on azaleas have any advantageous results, like increased flowering next year?

Yes, it can help the plant devote its energy to overall strength and vigor rather than to producing seed. This in turn will enable it to bloom better next year. It also improves the look of the plant to remove the spent blooms.
