The spring blooming bulbs such as crocus, daffodil, tulip, hyacinth and so on are usually planted as bare bulbs in the fall. That is the most cost effective time to plant them and the selection is broadest then as well. Occasionally, they are available in the spring as pre-chilled and pre-started plants grown in containers. Although these can be planted in the garden, the results next spring may be disappointing.
