I am rooting a cutting taken from a floral arrangement. In a newspaper article, I saw a picture of the plant and its name: Salix sachalinensis Sekka. I want to know more about this type of pussy willow--its size, where to plant it, etc. I have homes in Sarasota and Connecticut. Could this plant grow in both locations? |
This particular willow is rated hardy in zones 4 to 7 according to Michael Dirr's "Manual of Woody Landscape Plants" so it would not grow in Florida. As with most willows, it needs a full sun to partially shaded location with an evenly moist soil and will do better in a rich soil. The Japanese Fantail Willow is a relatively small willow, growing to about 10 to 15 feet. |
