Yarrows need only minimal trimming to remove old bloom stems. The green or gray foliage should be left as is. Lavender should not be trimmed back until late spring when the new growth has started. At that time, trim away any dead winter damage. Prune again lightly to shape after it blooms or when harvesting blooms. Never cut into the hardened older branches.
