How do I identify frost or cold damage on annuals? (petunias, alyssum)

Both of these plants happen to be somewhat frost tolerant and might not show any damage due to frost especially if they were sufficiently hardened or acclimated prior to planting. Transplant and/or cold stress might show as a "sunburned" paler look, or as wilting.
