|When and how do I prune the hydrangea? Is it cut all the way to the ground or do you cut off dead branches or buds?

|This type of hydrangea should not be pruned until after it has leafed out fully so you can see where there is winter damage (if any) and remove it. Any additional pruning would be done after it has bloomed. This later pruning would be done for shaping and possibly to thin out some of the oldest stems by cutting them at the base and thus encourage new shoots from the base of the plant. This plant blooms on old wood and pruning in early spring would remove this year's flowers.
