How far should I cut back my verbena plant and how long can I expect it to continue to grow?

If your plant is the common garden verbena, it's a tender perennial that's generally grown as an annual. If you would like to coax your plant into overwintering, avoid cutting it back at this time of year. Such a pruning would encourage new tender growth that would likely succumb during the winter. Mulch your plant in December to help the soil temperatures remain constant, and mark the location with a stake so you'll know where to look for it in the spring. Good luck.
