Wisteria grows into a very large, strong, and heavy vine that is very long lived. It can be trained next to a heavy post as a standard or tree shape if grown in the middle of open lawn, otherwise it needs a very sturdy support. The best location is in full sun. Dig a hole about three times wider than the roots and about the same depth. Loosen the soil along the sides and at the bottom of the hole. Set the plant in the hole and backfill so that it sits at the same depth as it grew in the pot or in the ground (if it is bare root, you may have to make a pile or cone of soil at the base of the hole and then drape the roots over that). water well to settle the soil and eliminate air pockets, then add a layer of several inches of organic mulch around but not touching the plant. Water as needed to keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy, weaning gradually back to about once a week by the end of the season.
