I am planting the groundcover cerastium, silver carpet. I have no idea how many plants to start with. How quickly does it spread? I don't have a huge area to cover and will be using plants in 4inch pots.

A cerastium in a four inch pot could possibly spread over a twelve inch square area in one year, and grow larger than that in two years. Some people find it is an exuberant spreader. It needs full sun and a well drained soil as well as good air circulation to stay looking its best.
