Is it okay to plant vegetables on top of a leeching field? Does it matter how deep (below the surface) the top of the field is? Does it matter if the vegetable grows above or below ground?

It really is not a good idea to plant anything except grass over a septic system leach area. It's important for water to be able to evaporate. Turfgrass will actually help wick water up from the ground. Find a different spot for your veggie garden!
