Our zuchinni and cucumber seedlings have just come up and one plant went brown, soft and wilty. There were patches of white stuff that resembled mold on parts of the leaves. Does it sound like frost to you?

It sounds more like powdery mildew, a fungal disease which often attacks squash leaves late in the season when nighttime temperatures are cold. Since it's still early spring, replant with healthy new transplants and you should have a bountiful harvest. Fungal spores may have drifted to the soil surface; be sure to dig or til the soil before replanting, or find another site for your new squash plants.
