Usually it is suggested to plant several varieties to facilitate pollination, other than that, there is nothing you could plant to help them along. The shrubs just take a long time to come into production. In the meantime, it is best not to plant anything in between them since they are shallow rooted and sensitive to disturbance. Maintaining an acid soil that is evenly moist yet not soggy along with several inches or organic mulch are the best things you can do.
