When my mother passed away, the plants we received were wonderful and numerous! Before now, I have NEVER owned or cared for a house plant. So, here I am with several that I am trying very hard to keep alive. First, can these be planted outside? If not, I read that they reach 4 feet. I have 2 of them right now and they are about 1 and 1/2 feet. When do I have to go to a bigger pot? Can they stay outside until cold weather approaches? Or, do I give up and send them to Grandma's house where they can be in a sunroom???? ![]() |
The hibiscus variety called Ann Arundel is actually a hardy perennial that would be planted outside year round in a full sun location with good rich soil and ample moisture, or even damp soil. It grows tall in the course of the summer and produces huge pink flowers, then dies back to the ground over the winter. It emerges late in the spring, so mark the spot where it is planted. You might want to plant them now and keep them well watered while they become established, then apply a heavy mulch over them after they go dormant in the fall. Enjoy your Ann Arundels! |
