| The soil should be consistently moist, like a damp sponge, but not overly wet until seeds germinate. Keep it moist as seedlings grow. As they mature, you can go longer between waterings, allowing the top of the soil to dry out, but make sure the water is penetrating deeper, to match the expanding root systems. Mature vegetable plants need to be watered to a depth of one foot. Apply a layer of mulch on top of the soil to help retain moisture and reduce temperature. |
