I have large strong looking tomato plants that have been putting on blooms for quite some time, but no tomatoes are setting on from the blooms. Do tomatoes need something extra to set fruit?

A couple possibilities come to mind. Tomato pollen isn't viable much over 90 degrees, so fruits won't set. What have your temperatures been? Another possibility is that the flowers aren't being pollinated at all. There aren't as many pollinators (bees, etc.) around as in past years. Try gently tapping and shaking your plants in the early morning, or hand-pollinate with a Q-tip to see if you can get some fruit to set. Good luck!
