|I would like to know where the best place to plant the blue poppy, how deep, in shade or sun. I also would like to know if I should cut the flower heads off. Some people say to cut the heads off the first time they grow, or the poppies will not come back the next year. I need all the help I can get. This is a lovely light blue poppy. I am a blue flower lover. Please Help.
|This plant is extremely difficult to grow successfully in hot summer areas such as yours. It does better for instance in the Pacific Northwest where the weather is cool and mild. You might try it in a location in morning sun with a soil rich in both grit and humus rather than a clay based soil. I am not familiar with the deadheading controversy, I would expect deadheading it to contribute to a healthier plant overall. Do not however, cut it back when you deadhead. You will need to experiment and see if you can get it to grow for you. If so, huge congratulations are in order.
