|I would like to start native planting where a lawn exists now. I need to know what the native plants are for my area.
I live in upstate N.Y., 90 miles north of the city.
|There are many native plants in your area. Determining whether you want to develop a wooded area or an area of mixed planting or a lower growing style of groundcover would begin to narrow your choices. You might wish to contact a naturalist in your region or one of the native plant societies for assistance in evaluating the growing conditions you have to offer and selecting plants that would do well and establish there successfully. The New York Botanical Garden, for one, offers a display planting area of plants native to your area and may be able to assist you in getting started.
