After the iris flower wilts, is it OK to pick off the remainder, or should it be left alone to fall off?

Once the flower wilts, the plant will try to set seed. To help preserve the plant's strength instead of allowing it to set seed it is a good idea to deadhead the plant, or remove the spent flowers. Blooms can be removed one by one as they fade (snip it off close to the stem taking the base of the flower as well as the petals) or the entire stem can be removed once all of its blooms have faded (snip it off clean at the base).
