|I just brought two shrubs from my local nursery here for my for lawn boxes. I plant them the way the direction of the tags said. I want to know how often do you water them the first year. e.g., once a day or every other day, or once a week. I used cedar wood chips to top off the planter box and around the shrubs. I have been water every day at night. I used a all purpose plant food for all my plants and shrubs every two weeks.
|Without knowing exactly what shrubs you planted, it's hard to say, as some plants prefer more moisture than others. However, as a general guideline, you want to keep the soil moist, but not overly wet, for several weeks while the roots establish. Then, water when the top inch or so of soil dries out. Since containers heat up and dry out fast depending on weather conditions, you will need to check the soil, rather than rely on a set schedule. Make sure the water is soaking the entire root ball, not just running down the sides of the pot. If you water at night, make sure you don't sprinkle water on the foliage, as wet foliage can promote fungal disease.
