| We received a plant from my husband's company when my father in law passed away. I am trying to find photos of plants so that I may identify this plant. It has a vibrant single bloom right in the center of somewhat spriraled green leafs. It is close to the top of the soil in the plant (has no height to it). It looks similar to the top of a pineapple, but has formed a bloom right in the center of the plant. We do not know how to care for the plant, since we do not know what type it is. |
| Based on your description it is probably a bromeliad. The pink bract should stay good looking for months on end. These plants are fairly easy to care for. They do well in bright indirect light and should have a small amount of water kept in the center "cup" at the base of the foliage. They also like a humid atmosphere. Water occasionally and use a water soluble houseplant fertilizer at about half the dilute strength about once a month, adding a little to the cup. The roots are mainly for anchoring the plant, watering the medium will help humidify the area around the plant. Pups or baby plants should develop around the perimeter and will eventually replace the center. |
