I purchase a Chinese Fan Palm about 5 months ago and it is about 5 ft tall and I have notice no new growth on it yet. It says that it requires bright indirect light, moderately moist soil, and tempertures above 65 F. I have had it inside with a plant light because I get little light in my home. Now I have put it outside since it is warm. It did get some brown and yellow tips on it's fan, but I recently cut all that off. My mother told me she knew a lady who had one and she fed it fish emolsion (which I do not know what that is), but does this plant just grow slow or is there anything special I need to do to make it grow. And since it is so tall it tends to start to lean if there is too much wind. Any anwers would be greatly appreciated.

Generally they grow 10 - 24 inches per year. The brown/yellow tips may have developed if the soil became too dry or soggy. If the roots are bulging out of the top of the soil and have completely filled the pot, it may have stopped growing because it's potbound. Palms dislike disturbance and should only be repotted when it's absolutely necessary. If you do repot, be sure to settle the potting mix well around the roots by firming it with your hand. Palms also do well with regular feeding. Fish emulsion is an option -- this liquid concentrate is made from fish byproducts, and usually comes in a deodorized form. You can use any houseplant food labeled for use on foliage plants. Just be sure to mix and apply it as directed on the label. I hope this helps!
