One of the ornamental aspects of a weeping cherry is that it weeps, and the plant naturally reaches the ground. It then shades its own roots and thus helps conserve soil moisture and a cooler temperature during the summer. Since it is usually difficult to grow other plants beneath a cherry tree die to its dense canopy and thirsty roots, this is not necessarily a bad thing. If however you feel it necessary to trim the tips, do so in the spring after bloom or by about the beginning of June.
