I have planted rhubarb on two separate occasions. It has been planted for at least four years. Each year after it has started to grow in the Spring, seed stocks emerge. I break off the seed pods and am able to harvest some stalks but why is this occuring? |
Rhubarb naturally blooms and tried to set seed. Some varieties will bloom later in the season than others, but healthy plants will bloom. There really isn't much you can do about it. Trimming off the stalks at the base before the flowers fade will help preserve the plant's energy so that is the right thing to do. |
