Should you pick off the first blossoms of Tomato plants to give the plants more time to gain strength?

In general this is not necessary. If however you purchased blooming plants that were still in small pots and might be particularly stressed, then you could remove any fruits to allow the plants to become established. In either case, make sure to keep the soil evenly moist yet not soggy and to plant into well prepared soil.
