There are several varieties of pepper called squash pepper, which refers to the shape of the fruit. You may also see them called tomato or cheese peppers. They're grown commercially for paprika powder, and some are available for home gardeners. Here are several cultivars recommended by Dave DeWitt & Paul W. Bosland, authors of "The Pepper Garden" (10 Speed Press, Berkeley, CA; ISBN# 0-89815-554-1):

'Squash', offered by Alfrey Seeds, PO Box 415, Knoxville, TN 37901

'Red Hot Squash' & 'Yellow Squash Hot', from Porter & Son, Seedsmen, PO Box 104, Stephenville, TX 79401
