Weeping Willow Sap? - Knowledgebase Question

We have several weeping willows on our development property. One of the residents is complaining about a sticky sap from the one nearest their home. I have never noticed this from any of the other trees. Is this common to the tree, is it season and is there a way to "clean up this tree" other than cutting it down? Thanks....

If there is sap from the tree, then there is a problem with the tree. Sap generally appears when the tree has been damaged in some way, possibly by an insect. I would suggest you consult with your county extension as to the cause of the sap, possible controls for the problem and the prognosis for the tree.
