What is the combination and proportions of dish detergent to water needed for insect control?

There are numerous home recipes for concoctions involving dish soap, typically a few drops to a spoonfull per gallon. I would strongly suggest testing this on a few leaves and waiting a few days to make sure there are no adverse effects before spraying the entire plant. You might also try a commercial brand of insecticidal soap, being careful to read and follow the label instructions. Again, I would still test it on a few leaves. To some extent, the effectiveness will depend on what you are trying to control, because soap is not effective on all pests.
