Should the blooms be removed from hosta plants?

I've discovered that hummingbirds visit the flowers so I allow mine to remain until they've faded, and then cut away the flowering stalk to keep the plants looking neat and attractive. You can remove the stalk as soon as it emerges if you don't want your hostas to flower - doing so won't hurt the plants at all.
