|We are building a house on a large lot with a backyard of about one-quarter acre. We need a fence for privacy and to contain our 70 lb. dog (who likes to chase squirrels). We are searching for an alternative to a pressure treated wood fence. Would privet or some other hedge grow dense enough to keep her from escaping?|
|In my experience, no hedge will contain a dog who is determined to get out. There is always a gap somewhere!
You might try erecting a fence, then plant shrubs inside or outside the fence to provide a visual screen. You could also grow vines on the fence to soften the appearance. Do look around a bit at the various options, there are many types of fencing available in so many styles and materials including recycled materials made to look like wood! The "invisible fencing" for dogs is also something to consider.
