my hydrangea blooms look "rusty". am i overwatering or is this the natural wilting process? thanks for you help. |
I apologize for the delay in answering your question. Hydrangea blooms usually fade through a color range over a period of weeks (or longer) and eventually can look brown and crispy. Watering from overhead and wetting the blooms could contribute to discoloration as well. Water stress on the other hand can also cause the flowers to dry up and brown very quickly. You need to check your watering to make sure that the soil is staying evenly moist throughout the root area, not sopping wet and not just damp on top. A regular deep watering will work better than a daily light sprinkling and a layer of several inches of mulch can help the soil stay more evenly moist. |
