How do I get rid of horsetail. It is taking over my gardens.

As you might have guessed, it will be difficult to eliminate horsetail. The plant has deep roots and spreads by underground rhizomes. Try to improve drainage--horsetail likes moisture. Keep the area mowed if possible. If you are growing a crop plant, keep the area properly fertilized to help the crop compete with the weeds. One source suggests planting a cover crop of nasturtiums--horsetail cannot endure shading and will be smothered by the dense foliage
