My husband bought compact sprenger asparagus and planted it along the patio. Will these be okay in zones 5-6 in the winter, are they affected by frost. Should I bring them in in the winter or will they be okay? Grow back in the spring?

This plant is not winter hardy so they will need to be brought indoors as house plants for the winter or replaced next spring. Bringing them in is a big job so most gardeners opt for replacement. If you want to bring them in, trim them back by at least half, dig them up with as many roots intact as possible, and plant them in pots large enough to accommodate the roots. Keep them in as bright a location as possible and allow the soil to dry somewhat between waterings. You will also need to acclimate them gradually over about two weeks when moving them from outside in and from inside out. They should be moved when the nights are about 50 degrees.
