|What is the procedure for germinating a Tulip Poplar Tree|
from seed, including soil conditions, water needs, climate
|Tulip poplar, or Yellow poplar, is related to Magnolias and blooms in May and June. It's an excellent landscape tree, if you have the room. Seeds are favorite foods of Blue Jays and Robins.|
Liriodendron tulipifera seeds can be planted directlyoutdoors in the fall months, or can be put through a treatment called stratification - or cold storage. To accomplish this, gather seed in October or November; place in moist sand in plastic bags; store in coldest part of the refrigerator for 90 days; remove and plant outdoors in the spring. You will probably get better germination with the cold treatment, because of the lack of cold winter weather in your region.
Tulip poplar trees like full sun, lots of water and deep, rich, well drained soil. By the way, flowers are not usually produced until the tree is 10 - 12 years old.
